Cisterna d'Asti: Castle, Churches and Wine in the Roero

Cisterna d'Asti is the only municipality in the province of Asti that geographically and geologically belongs to the Roero. The municipal area is centered around the Castello di Cisterna d'Asti with its museum, the parish church of Saints Gervasius and Protasius, the Church of San Giuseppe and the local Bottega del Vino. These local highlights range from the museum in the castle and two churches to Cisterna d'Asti DOC made from Croatina grapes. The Castle Museum in Castello di Cisterna d'Asti

Castello di Cisterna d'Asti houses the Museo Arti e Mestieri di un Tempo. The museum was inaugurated on October 4, 1980, on the ground floor of the castle. Its areas include the Antiche Cantine, the Piano Nobile and the Piano Sottotetto. The museum visit therefore combines a specific building with a clearly structured selection of museum areas.

Parish Church and Church of San Giuseppe

The parish church of Saints Gervasius and Protasius is part of Cisterna d'Asti's ecclesiastical architectural history. It was rebuilt with two naves in 1575. It contains an organ by Giuseppe Gandini from Varese dating from 1926. The Church of San Giuseppe was built by the Disciplinants in 1636.

Cisterna d'Asti DOC and Croatina

The local Bottega del Vino offers tastings of Cisterna d'Asti DOC. The wine is produced exclusively from Croatina grapes or with Croatina accounting for at least 80 percent. Croatina is therefore either the wine's sole basis or accounts for at least four-fifths of its production.
