Montemagno among old lanes and vineyard paths

The twelve lanes at the foot of the castle form the old part of Montemagno. The castle remains the fixed spatial reference point of the townscape. The spatial range extends from the foot of the castle via church sites and a hilltop to a ridge between vineyards.

Lanes, Church, and Frescoes

The Green Route leads from Piazza San Martino to Santa Maria della Cava in 300 meters. The church has frescoes dating from 1491. The short distance between the piazza and the church keeps the first part of the Green Route spatially manageable. The church is therefore located at the short opening stretch of the Green Route, before the subsequent section begins along Via della Pace.

Paths to Torre di San Vittore

On the Green Route, the path then continues for approximately 600 meters along Via della Pace to Torre di San Vittore. Torre di San Vittore stands on a hilltop and offers panoramic views across the entire Basso Monferrato. For planning routes with sections of different lengths, the section along Via della Pace is the longer part of the Green Route. Compared with the 300-meter path to Santa Maria della Cava, it is approximately twice as long. The hilltop marks the transition from the street route to panoramic views across the entire Basso Monferrato.

The Cammino Romanico Montemagno

The Cammino Romanico Montemagno offers a second perspective on the surrounding area. It runs along a ridge between vineyards and offers a beautiful view of the town of Montemagno. The rural church of Madonna di Vallino is only 150 meters from the road previously traveled along the Cammino. The view of Montemagno remains connected to the landscape of the ridge and vineyards. For route planning, the short distance from the previously traveled road creates a distinct spatial reference. The vineyards accompany the path along the ridge, while Montemagno remains a visible reference point for the town throughout the route.

Churches Between History and Tradition

The church of Santi Vittore e Corona lies just outside the town near the cemetery. Its Romanesque ruins date from the 12th century. Its location just outside the town distinguishes this site from the old part around the castle. The 12th century predates the fresco date of 1491.
