Magnano between history and woodland landscape

Magnano combines its architectural history with a wooded setting. The Chiesa di San Secondo dates from the first half of the 11th century. The Ricetto di Magnano dates from 1204 and was built after Magnano was elevated to the status of a free town. The two structures provide different points of reference in time for Magnano’s history.

The Ricetto di Magnano complex still reveals its original structure and, in part, its architectural features. It is situated on a hill and offers a panorama over the town.

Churches and art

The present-day Chiesa Parrocchiale di San Giovanni Battista was opened for worship in 1670. Its date represents a later point of reference among the local churches than the Chiesa di San Secondo. Magnano’s ecclesiastical history therefore extends from a building dating from the early Middle Ages to the 17th century.

Villa Flecchia houses a collection of more than sixty paintings from the 19th and 20th centuries. A stay in Magnano thus broadens the cultural perspective from architecture to painting.

Views and woodland

From Villa Flecchia, the view extends across plains, densely wooded areas, cultivated fields, and small towns as far as the Serra Morenica di Ivrea. Today, forests cover most of the area of Magnano. The forests are therefore not only part of the landscape visible from the villa, but also shape the town’s territory.

Early music in summer

Musica Antica a Magnano organizes concerts of early music during the summer festival from the end of July to the beginning of September. There are therefore two specific starting points for travelling to Magnano: the railway station in Biella or the railway station in Ivrea. The choice between Biella and Ivrea depends on the station from which the bus journey begins.
