Morozzo: Castle, Frescoes and Nature Reserve

Morozzo combines a series of historical themes with a clear connection to nature. This gives you two different approaches when planning your trip: you can focus on castle and religious history or include the nature reserve and the surrounding regional landscape.

Castle and Churches with a Long History

The Castello di Morozzo is the historic residence of the Marchesi di Pamparato family. At the same time, it is an 18th-century castle that has been restored in accordance with conservation principles. Morozzo therefore centres on a specific building where aristocratic residential history and 18th-century architecture come together.

The Cappella di Santo Stefano preserves a late Gothic fresco cycle from 1400 depicting the life of the saint. Another historical landmark is the Chiesa Parrocchiale della Natività di Maria in Morozzo. Its origins date back to around the year 1000.

The Santuario del Brichetto is also known as the Chiesa di Santa Maria and preserves 15th-century frescoes by Giovanni Mazzucco. Its origins date back to the 12th century. The fresco cycle depicting the life story of the Madonna is considered one of the most fascinating and complete in Piedmont. This gives you a cultural focus that can be explored through different eras and religious buildings.

The Nature Reserve and Cycle Path as a Nature Theme

The reserve has a visitor entrance in Morozzo on the Strada Provinciale 422.

If you categorise Morozzo according to different interests, this cycle path can be viewed as an independent highlight alongside the frescoes and churches. The route runs from Crava to Morozzo and crosses the reserve area; it is three kilometres long. This length can be included as a separate section when planning your own day trip.

Destinations in the Surrounding Area and Beyond

The Monastero di Santa Maria monastery is located in the vicinity of Morozzo. The surrounding area also includes Parco Europa, Palazzo Fauzone, the Museo Della Ceramica Di Mondovi' ceramics museum, the Giardini del Belvedere gardens and the Complesso Monumentale di San Francesco museum complex.

In the wider regional area around Morozzo are Monte Moro di Frabosa and the summit of Monte Besimauda (Bisalta).

December Date with Market Activity
