Trinità between Chapels, History and Nature
Trinità combines origins dating back to the 11th century with buildings and works of art from several later periods. The town was first mentioned in this context in 1008. If you would like to explore Italian destinations through their local history, this chronological span provides a clear thread: from its origins and Romanesque and medieval heritage to buildings from the early modern period.
Chapels and Architectural History
The Cappella dell’Annunziata is the oldest chapel in Trinità and dates from the 12th to the 13th century. The Romanesque bell tower of Trinità ’s former parish church also dates from the 12th century. Together, the two buildings represent different forms of religious architecture and make the town’s medieval connections particularly clear.
The Castello di Trinità is also part of the town’s architectural history. It was built on the site of the former monastery. The Chiesa Parrocchiale della Santissima Trinità adds a later dimension: its imposing façade dates from 1750 and is attributed to the architect Giovanni Battista Borra. The former monastery grounds, castle and parish church thus point to different periods in the town’s history.
Religious Art from Several Centuries
Further works of art complete this picture. The municipal offices in Trinità contain a rare 13th-century fresco of the Madonna del Latte by an unknown artist. The Chiesa della Confraternita was built in 1658 and preserves an icon by Sebastiano Taricco. The fresco and icon represent different forms of religious art while also extending the story beyond the Middle Ages into the town’s more recent architectural history.
The image themes of the Cappella di San Rocco can be identified particularly clearly. It preserves 16th-century frescoes attributed to Oddone Pascale, depicting the Pietà , Saint Anne and Saint Christopher. For practical orientation, it is important to know that the chapel is normally closed. However, its frescoes can be seen through the votive windows. This means that the artwork remains a recognizable part of the townscape even from outside.
Nature, Season and Tour Route
Trinità also has a clear connection with the protected Gesso e Stura River Park. The municipality is one of the 14 municipalities involved in the park. The natural aspect complements the town’s historical and artistic character without equating its cultural sites with the park.
As a seasonal event, the Fera dij Pocio e dij Bigat takes place every year during the last week of November. A possible tour route may also be of interest for your travel planning: it leads from Fossano through Narzole, Bene Vagienna, Carrù and Trinità before returning to Fossano. Trinità appears here as one stop along a longer route.
The Trinità -Bene Vagienna railway station is located in the municipality of Trinità . If you are looking for a hotel in Trinità , you can tailor your priorities to the town’s architectural history, religious art, protected natural area or the Fera dij Pocio e dij Bigat.
