Lagna between village history and lakeshore

Lagna combines a documented early history with paths and squares by the water. In a document dated June 10, 1001, the place is recorded as “loco Alagna, iusta lacum Sancti lulii”. Historical evidence in the village

In 1537, a large communal fishpond was documented in Lagna. This supplements the early mention with a specific indication of the place’s former use. In the past, Lagna was oriented towards typical activities on the lake, including fishing, fish farming and nautical transport. There is also an old mill beside the paved lane, probably of medieval origin.

Casa Cattaneo dates from 1689 and has a portico dating from 1748. The Oratorio di San Rocco in Lagna was first described in 1617. The years 1617, 1689 and 1748 provide several clearly distinct historical reference points in the village. This allows you to view the village’s history through religious architecture, residential buildings and former uses of the waterside.

Lakeside destinations for swimming and boating

You can swim at Prarolo’s gravel beach on the shore of Lake Orta. Spiaggia Comunale Prarolo has a landing pier, toilets and showers; a kiosk or bar is open from May to September. This combination of swimming facilities, seasonal services and basic infrastructure makes this stretch of shore interesting for different kinds of day plans.

Porto di Lagna is a small, freely accessible beach measuring approximately 40 × 5 metres. Spiaggia Porto di Lagna has a landing pier and is located at the “Lagna” stop of Navigazione Lago d'Orta. The beach, pier and stop therefore form a clear point of reference for your time at the lake.

Paths and views

Via dei Canneti is a path approximately 1 km long that then continues to the hamlet of Lagna di San Maurizio d'Opaglio. Its approximate length describes a clearly defined section of the route and helps you distinguish this part of the surroundings from the destinations located immediately by the water.
