Bobbio Pellice between Alpine Nature and History

Bobbio Pellice combines the Monumento Sibaud, La Dogana Reale, and the Museo del Podio with the landscapes of the Conca del Prà and Valle Carbonieri. Historic Sites and Alpine Culture

You can reach the Monumento Sibaud from the center of Bobbio Pellice via a path or a road, on a pleasant walk of around 30 minutes. The Monumento Sibaud was inaugurated in 1889 as part of the celebrations marking the 200th anniversary of the “Glorioso Rimpatrio.” The site therefore combines a direct route connection with a historic memorial site.

On Via Sibaud, La Dogana Reale houses the Alpine Culture Center. The exhibition at the Museo del Podio offers another way to explore the history of the area. It is located in a restored 19th-century district school, where some furnishings are still on display.

The Museo del Podio is part of a historical circuit opened in 2020. It connects important sites in the municipality of Bobbio Pellice associated with events from the 16th and 17th centuries. The history of Località del Podio also includes a pact from 1561 between the Protestant communities of the Val Pellice and Alta Val Chisone in the Dauphiné. Conca del Prà and Valle Carbonieri

The Conca del Prà is a postglacial geomorphological area. Its basin landscape formed after landslides blocked the valley floor following the retreat of the Pleistocene glaciers. At the same time, the Conca del Prà is part of the Natura 2000 ZSC Oasi del Prà - Barant site. The landscape is therefore not only a destination for nature observation, but also an illustrative setting for understanding geological relationships.

From Villanova, the Conca del Prà can be reached via trail TOS115 and via a gravel road with regulated access. The Gran Tour del Monviso can be started from Val Pellice via the Conca del Prà; one access route leads along the SP161 to the hamlet of Villanova di Bobbio Pellice, where you can park your car.

The paved road through Valle Carbonieri leads to Pianoro Barbara, from where walks in nature are possible. The ascent through Valle Carbonieri to Rifugio Barbara Lowrie is frequently used by cyclists and mountain bikers. A gravel road runs through the Oasi del Barant. Another route leads from Rifugio Barbara Lowrie over Colle Barant at 2,373 m to Rifugio Willy Jervis at 1,732 m. In the area around Bobbio Pellice, you will therefore find both nature walks and routes with significantly different elevations.
