Cavallo: Circular Routes, History and Regional Specialties

For your travel planning, Cavallo offers several clearly distinct points of interest: extensive excursion routes, short and long circuits around Lago della Spina, historical landmarks, and regional products. This allows you to tailor your stay to your desire for activity, interest in culture, or culinary curiosity without mixing up the individual themes.

Circular Routes and Excursion Trails

Beicà 'n bike is a network of more than 150 km of excursion routes that can be used by bicycle, on foot, and on horseback. This provides different modes of transport within an extensive network of routes for individual planning.

At Lago della Spina, there is a short and a long circuit. The short circuit, Anello corto del Lago della Spina, is also suitable for children and follows the lake to a statue of the Madonna della Spina carved into a tree trunk. The long circuit, Anello lungo del Lago della Spina, follows the lakeshore to a gallery for filling the lake, continues to a pond, and then leads to the earth dam. From Piazza Risorgimento, it can be reached via a signposted footpath to the lake. The different route lengths and waypoints make it easier to adapt your daily plans to the desired walking distance.

Historical Connections and Religious Sites

At the Santuario della Beata Vergine della Spina, the first historical references date back to 1585. They come from the visitation report of the Bishop of Asti, Mons. Domenico della Rovere. The main altar of the Santuario was built in 1632. Both dates give the site a clearly tangible historical depth.

The votive pillars Pilone dell'Immacolata Concezione and Pilone della Madonna della Guardia are located in Regione Cavallo. At the Palio dei Borghi, Cavallo-Roncaglia is one of the five historic Borghi of Pralormo. Italian terms such as Borgo or Pilone remain part of the local designation, making the regional character of the sites visible.

Local Markets and Agricultural Insights

Cascine in Piazza takes place every year in April in parallel with Messer Tulipano. The market is dedicated to typical local products as well as outstanding local food and wine products. During the Appuntamento Enogastronomico, menus featuring products from local farms and agricultural businesses are offered during Messer Tulipano in April. One menu at the Appuntamento Enogastronomico included Filzetta, Lardo al rosmarino, Carrè affumicato, Tometta, Tomino al miele e nocciole, and Peperone in salsa.

The Società Agricola Agrisapori offers another perspective on agriculture. It provides guided farm tours and workshops where visitors can follow the processing of milk into ice cream, yoghurt, and cheese. The Società Agricola Agrisapori is one of the educational farms in Pralormo and is located at Strada della Franca 3/1. It covers approximately 57 hectares, a considerable part of which has been preserved as original spontaneous woodland.
