Caselle Torinese combines sacred art, historic architecture and a variety of routes into a destination you can explore according to your interests. In the Cappella di Sant’Anna, in the churches and chapels, and among the historic buildings, several centuries stand side by side. Two routes complement this cultural focus: Il Cammino delle Valli and the Corona di Delizie cycling loop.

Churches and sacred history

The Cappella di Sant’Anna is a Baroque chapel with a Neoclassical façade. In 1860, Blessed Don Michele Rua was ordained a priest there. The Cappella della Madonnina is also known as Madonna del Pilone and contains frescoes attributed to the schools of Giacomo Jaquerio or Giovanni Martino Spanzotti. The present Cappella della Madonnina was rebuilt in 1785 under the direction of the architect Grossi.

San Giovanni Evangelista and Santa Maria also date back a long way: the first documented mention of the parish of San Giovanni Evangelista dates from 1174; the church of Santa Maria is first mentioned in a document from 1252. The present façade of the Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta was built in 1897 in the Neo-Renaissance style. The Chiesa dei Battuti is a brick building in the Piedmontese Baroque style; it was opened for worship in 1721 and bears an inscription with the year 1721 on its outer architrave.

Historic places and details

The altarpiece Madonna del Popolo in the Palazzo Mosca was commissioned from Defendente Ferrari at the beginning of the 16th century. The Tenuta della Carignana was expanded and furnished as a princely hunting lodge in 1626. Among the preserved exterior frescoes in the courtyard of the Castello of Caselle is the coat of arms of Prince Tommaso Savoia-Carignano. The Castello of Caselle is said to have been built by the lords of Caselle as a residence.

Hiking, pilgrimage and cycling

Il Cammino delle Valli is a 103-kilometre circular route that begins in Caselle Torinese. It includes almost entirely flat stages from Caselle to Lanzo and from Corio to Caselle. A pilgrim passport can be stamped at accommodation providers and points of interest and must be stamped at least once a day. For cyclists, the approximately 100-kilometre Corona di Delizie circular route is an interesting option. The two routes differ in their course: Il Cammino delle Valli follows mountain trails and unpaved paths, while Corona di Delizie passes by the historic centre of Caselle Torinese.

For the third season of the Stagione Teatrale Casellese at Sala Fratelli Cervi, eight free, newly staged theatre performances were announced.
