Collegno combines cultural history and a riverside landscape: Certosa Reale, Villaggio Leumann, archaeological traces and the Parco Agronaturale della Dora Riparia offer different ways to experience the area. This is interesting for planning your trip if you would like to combine historic sites with nature and paths along the river.

Certosa Reale and historic town centre

The Certosa Reale area covers approximately 400,000 m². It includes the centuries-old Dalla Chiesa Park and the Royal Certosa.

The construction of the large cloister in 1700 and Juvarra’s intervention on the portal marked the opening of the monastic complex towards Collegno’s historic town centre. The entire Villaggio Leumann area is designated as an urban settlement of historic and environmental-historical significance.

Archaeology, castle and historic routes

Excavations in Collegno uncovered a Gothic and a Lombard necropolis, as well as the remains of an early medieval hamlet. In the immediate vicinity lies Castello Provana, a castle: built around 1171 by Umberto III the Blessed of Savoy, it was largely destroyed in the 13th century and rebuilt towards the end of that century. In 1599, Duke Charles Emmanuel I of Savoy granted the fief of Collegno to Giovanni Francesco Provana di Carignano.

In the Middle Ages, the Via della Varda was the section in Collegno of the Via Pellegrina, also known as Pellerina. The road ran from Turin along the right bank of the Dora and led to a bridge already documented from 1210 onwards.

Dora Riparia and paths through the landscape

In Collegno, the Parco Agronaturale della Dora Riparia stretches along the Dora Riparia. It comprises agricultural fields, remnants of riparian woodland and riverside vegetation.

A combined pedestrian and cycle bridge connects the walking trails along the opposite banks of the river. The riverside landscape thus complements the historical themes with an area for travellers who would like to combine culture and physical activity.

Multimedia routes and destinations in the surrounding area

LeumAPP offers two interconnected visitor routes: “una città nella città” and “un gioiello di archeologia industriale”, with almost two hours of multimedia content. Both routes are available with English subtitles.

The immediate vicinity of Collegno also includes Lavanderi a Avapore, a museum; Palazzo Piozzo, a palace; Casa del Conte Verde, a palace; Giardino Pubblico Altiero Spinelli, a public garden; and Parco Generale Dalla Chiesa, a park.

The wider regional surroundings of Collegno include Monte Musinè, a mountain, and Goja Del Pis, a waterfall.

When choosing your accommodation in Collegno, you can therefore consider whether you would primarily like to combine your stay with monastic history, the history of industrial settlements, the landscape of the Dora Riparia or destinations in the wider regional surroundings.
