Culture between the Tower, Parrocchia and Aqueduct

The tower of Sangano was originally a Romanesque bell tower and was later converted into a defensive structure. If you are interested in the development of historic buildings, this change of function helps make a special aspect of the town’s history understandable.

The Parrocchia di Sangano is dedicated to Saints Solutor, Avventor and Octavius and was built in the Baroque style. It is also accessible to wheelchair users. Here, the religious dedication combines with a clear architectural character and an important practical consideration for an individual cultural trip.

The historic perspective also includes the Val-Sangone aqueduct complex. It was inaugurated on March 6, 1859. The first intake galleries were located near Sangano, close to Trana, on the left bank of the Sangone River. For visitors interested not only in religious and military history but also in technical infrastructure, the complex adds another perspective to the town’s history.

Trails to Monte Pietraborga

The trail reaches Monte Pietraborga at an elevation of 925 meters via a wide, easily walkable path. It follows the watershed between the municipal areas of Sangano and Trana.

From Monte Pietraborga, the trail descends along a gravel road through chestnut and fruit trees toward the small settlement of Prese di Sangano at 806 meters. Water can be replenished there. The section therefore changes in character from the higher elevation at the mountain to a descent characterized by trees and gravel; the opportunity to refill water is also useful for practical orientation. For tour planning, the change from a wide, easily walkable path to a gravel road means that the ascent and descent have different trail surfaces. The route thus connects the watershed between Sangano and Trana with the descent toward Prese di Sangano. The possible water stop at Prese di Sangano is therefore part of the downhill section of the route. The ascent ends at Monte Pietraborga at 925 meters; Prese di Sangano lies at 806 meters.

Local Specialties from Sangano

The Budin from Sangano, now known as Sanguinacci, are blood sausages made from blood, seasonings and vegetables, which are stuffed into casings like salami. If you would like to learn Italian regional terms, you will encounter two names here for the same dish.

Biscotto Sanganese is an artisan-made sweet pastry made from Fumetto and cornmeal. Alongside the sausage specialty, this offers a pastry with its own composition and a clearly recognizable local name.

A Recurring Event
