Cuorgnè among arcades, towers and forest paths

Cuorgnè reveals its character where the historic urban structure meets paths leading into the surrounding woodland. In Via Arduino, arcades, widened arches and stretches of visible cobblestone paving shape the scene. The Sentiero del Gallo and the CAI Route 421 begin in different districts and each offers its own landscape or cultural perspective. Via Arduino and the historic urban structure

Via Arduino is an important urban-planning and architectural example of Cuorgnè’s old commercial district. Almost the entire street is lined with arcades; the best-preserved ones feature characteristic widened arches. In some places, the cobblestone paving with which the central street was once completely surfaced is still visible. For culture-focused days, this street provides a concise introduction to Cuorgnè’s built history.

Chiesa di San Giovanni

The Chiesa di San Giovanni is located in the centre of Cuorgnè’s borgo. It was the church of the Confraternita della Misericordia and was also known as San Giovanni Decollato. Documents from 1378 attest to its existence. The present building dates from the early 17th century; it has a single-nave layout and two lateral Baroque altars. Thus, a history documented since 1378 meets a later, clearly datable building here.

The Torre Quadrata

The Torre Quadrata was built between 1330 and 1380 and was constructed higher than the round tower. In 1469 it was transferred to the municipality; later, it was used for the town bell and clock. For exploring Cuorgnè’s architectural history, the tower complements the view of Via Arduino.

Paths through forests and clearings

The section of the Sentiero del Gallo relating to Cuorgnè begins in the Ronchi Maddalena district. It runs along paths and unpaved tracks through forests and clearings. Here, therefore, you will find a landscape character distinct from the town’s arcades and towers. If you enjoy walking, you can include this route as a separate focus in your travel planning.

The CAI Route 421

The CAI Route 421 begins in Cuorgnè’s Santa Lucia district. There is a small car park with benches and an information board there. The route is the traditional ascent path to the Sacro Monte of the Cuorgnè community. Its starting point and connection with the Sacro Monte give it a different profile from the Sentiero del Gallo and help you organise your route planning according to your interests.

Archaeology in Salto

The Grotta Boira Fusca, an archaeological site, is located in the Salto district. In the 1970s, it was the first cave in which prehistoric remains ranging from the Lower Palaeolithic to the Bronze Age came to light. Salto thus complements the historic streets, churches and towers with an archaeological site and a very long chronological horizon.
