Didiero – Trails, Forest and Regional Culture

Didiero combines mining history, forest landscapes and regional culture. From Didiero, trails lead to historic mining traces, through the Abetina di Salza and into the Ghinivert Valley. The wider regional area also contains a castle, several museums, mountains and a summit.

Mining History on Historic Trails

The Sentiero Salza-Scopriminiera follows a historic route used by miners. Along its course, the trail passes abandoned mines, powder magazines and remnants of Decauville railways. The Sentiero Salza-Scopriminiera also leads from Didiero to the Museo di Scopriminiera. At the starting point of the trail in Didiero, it is possible to park the car.

Forest Landscape between Didiero and Colletto di Fontane

The Abetina di Salza is designated as a seed forest for silver fir and belongs to the national seed forests as well as to the Natura 2000 designation of biotopes of European importance. The Sentiero L'Abetina di Salza runs through the Abetina di Salza between Didiero and Colletto di Fontane. Thus, a dedicated section of the trail passes through the silver-fir forest and connects the two places along its route.

Another route is the Sentiero dei minatori e delle foreste di abete bianco. It descends along the GTA trail to Borgata Didiero. The two routes differ in their destinations: one hike leads to Balziglia, while the other leads to Borgata Didiero.

The landscapes differ when choosing a route: the Sentiero L'Abetina di Salza runs through the silver-fir forest, while the hike from Didiero to Balziglia passes through the foothills of Monte Laparé and the Ghinivert Valley.
