Discover Ciriè: History, Festivals and Culture

Ciriè combines buildings from several periods with festivals, a market and theatre, as well as a railway connection to Turin. The Chiesa San Martino di Liramo, Palazzo D’Oria, Duomo San Giovanni and Villa Remmert represent different historical layers. Romanesque and Liberty styles provide a direct architectural comparison at the Chiesa San Martino di Liramo and Villa Remmert. The construction dates of these two buildings in Ciriè are far apart.

Historic buildings and their stories in Ciriè

An early highlight is the Chiesa San Martino di Liramo. It was built in the Romanesque style at the beginning of the 11th century and later expanded with additional side aisles. The Romanesque core and the later side aisles therefore belong to different construction phases of the same building.

Palazzo D’Oria is a historic palace dating from the 16th century. The Palazzo D’Oria museum tour includes the Quadreria dei Marchesi D’Oria. The nearby Duomo San Giovanni also contains the tombs of the D’Oria family in a chapel. With the development of the Borgo di Ciriè, the Duomo San Giovanni became the town’s most important parish in the 14th century. The palazzo and the duomo therefore have different connections to the D’Oria family: one through the museum tour, the other through the tombs in the chapel.

Another architectural period can be seen at Villa Remmert, which was built in the Liberty style at the end of the 19th century. At the time of its construction, the villa had an English landscape park and an agricultural outbuilding. The Torre di San Rocco is a testament to an ancient past and the symbol of the Borgo di San Rocco.

Festivals, market and theatre in Ciriè

San Serié is Ciriè’s patronal festival and is therefore one of the local traditions that gives the town its own annual rhythm. The Palio dei Borghi commemorates the arrival of Marchesa Margherita in Ciriè in 1305. The two festivals refer to different historical connections in Ciriè.

“Funghi in Piazza” features the 40th market and exhibition of mushrooms, as well as typical Piedmontese gastronomic and handicraft products. The theatre season at Teatro Magnetti on Via Cavour in Ciriè comprises eight different performances.

Getting to and finding your way around Ciriè

Ciriè railway station offers an assistance service for people with disabilities and reduced mobility. On the SFM7 Ciriè–Airport–Turin–Fossano line, a train runs every hour on weekdays.
