Trails through vineyards and hilly landscapes

For navigating the trails, the Cammino Don Bosco provides a clear basis: it is carefully marked, and a map is normally sufficient to follow it. The “Carta e guida dei sentieri della Collina Torinese n° 3” also includes trails in Moriondo. It contains information on route lengths, walking times and elevation differences, as well as on travelling by public transport to the starting points.

The Via del Castello is laid out as a cycling and hiking trail. It begins in the centre of Moriondo and leads uphill to the castle along a paved road. At 1.70 kilometres long, with a gentle incline and a compact surface, it remains a short route. It passes through vineyards and quiet landscapes, offering views of the hills around Turin. The Baroque chapel of Saints Roch and Sebastian is a worthwhile stop along the way. The “Sulla piana tra cappelle e laghetti” trail also leads to the Laghetto della Gioia, an artificial pond next to a rest area with a drinking fountain.

The Cammino Don Bosco also passes through Lovencito. “Da Arignano a Moriondo e Mombello” is also designated as a cycling tour in the Moriondo Torinese area.

Castle, Churches and Local History

Castello di Moriondo was built between 1010 and 1039 by Bishop Landolfo of Turin as a defensive structure. The complex is privately owned and is not accessible to residents or tourists. Castello di Moriondo is entered through a brick tower with an arched gateway.

The present-day parish church of San Giovanni Battista was opened to the public in 1838 after two years of construction. It had been built beside the feudal castle and is decorated with paintings by Enrico Reffo. Its organ was installed in 1862 and built by Felice and Giacomo Bossi. In the hamlet of Lovencito, a cemetery church has a Romanesque apse. The cemetery church of San Grato of Moriondo Torinese is also located there.

Festivals with a Local Character

Local culture includes the Sagra del Cavolo Liscio. It was established in 2003, has become a local tradition, and takes place on the occasion of the patron saint’s festival of the Divin Salvatore. On this occasion, local products are offered at a food stall run by the Pro Loco. Its connection with a regional product links the festival to a vivid aspect of the town.

The Festa della Musica in Moriondo Torinese is a free public event. It is open to professional and amateur musicians and covers all musical genres.
