Oratory and Churches in Someraro

In the 12th century, an oratory dedicated to Saint Bernard of Menton was built in Someraro after part of the population of Carciano fled there following a severe earthquake. In 1590, the oratory bore the name “Oratorio di San Bernardo”. The history of this sacred site therefore dates back to the 12th century.

The church building later erected in a central location was dedicated to the Consolata, also known as Madonna della Cintura. On 15 August 2024, the “Someraro in Festa” festival took place in the Someraro district; its programme included a Mass at the Chiesa della Madonna della Cintura. The church and the festival date provide two specific points of access to Someraro’s sacred and local cultural history.

Cultural Destinations in the Surrounding Area

Several destinations with different cultural and architectural connections are located around Someraro. Villa San Remigio is considered a palace. Also in the surrounding area are the Museo Internazionale Design Ceramico, which is considered a museum, and Palazzo Flaim, which is considered a palace. The Mausoleo Cadorna is also located nearby and is considered a monument. Views and Landscape

Someraro is considered a scenic balcony with views of the Borromean Islands. Monte Mazzarone, which is considered a peak, is also located in the surrounding area. The Funivia del Sasso del Ferro, which is considered a viewpoint, is also situated there. In addition, the two destinations Spiaggia del Sasso Cavallazzo and Spiaggia dei Caravalle, both considered beaches, are located around Someraro. This allows views, peaks and beaches to be considered separate focal points of the surrounding area according to your interests.

Trails with Different Rhythms

There are also specific reference points for navigating the trails. The CAI M5 trail runs through Someraro along a descending section. After Someraro, the route continues downhill along a restored old path towards Carciano and its lido. Someraro is therefore connected both to a trail running through the village and to a subsequent passage towards Carciano.

In addition, the “Natura e Spirito” journey provides an overarching framework. It is divided into four main stages and can be completed on foot or using a means of transport. You can use this structure to distinguish a journey with a greater emphasis on walking from a plan involving transport.
