Sacred Art and Traditional Village Landscapes

The Chiesa di San Lorenzo houses a canvas painted by Tanzio da Varallo in 1628, depicting Saint Charles carrying the Holy Nail in a procession. Next to the church stands a bell tower considered the tallest in Valsesia, at 56 metres high. Together, the two buildings give the visit a clear cultural focus.

The hamlets in the Cellio area also preserve typical Valsesia houses. Their furnishings include old implements for threshing oats and wheat, as well as old presses. The small Museo civico is dedicated to the history and past of Cellio. In Bosco in Cellio, the Oratorio di San Jacu Pitu is generally dated to the 15th century.

August Art and Distinctive Beer Recipes

Sculturando is a sculpture event held in Cellio every August for many years. The participating sculptors work from the raw material through to the finished piece. The Birrificio Valle Cellio offers a different local highlight: the brewery develops distinctive beer recipes, including beer with chestnuts, thyme and rice.

Walking and Mountain-Biking Routes

If you would like to explore Cellio on foot, the Sentiero Valduggia–Cellio combines sections along a mule track with sections on roads and passes through several interesting hamlets. The Varallo–Civiasco–Breia–Cellio–Valduggia MTB route also passes through Cellio.

Monte Briasco and Destinations in the Surrounding Area

A more demanding walk in the area of Cellio con Breia leads to Monte Briasco at an altitude of 1,185 metres. This walk offers views of Monte Rosa and Lago d’Orta. The combination of route and views makes Monte Briasco a distinct landscape destination to include in your plans.

The Montefenera Caves and the Grotte di Ara, both caves, are located in the surroundings of Cellio. Monte Trevigno and Monte Piogera are peaks in the area around Cellio. These destinations extend the perspective beyond the local paths while remaining clearly part of the immediate surroundings.
