Fobello between Nature and Living Culture

Fobello combines nature, everyday culture and visible history in a village whose special features can be explored through its landscape, traditional dress, museums and local cuisine. This creates a travel destination for you that brings different interests together: Approximately 700 hectares of Fobello’s municipal area belong to the Alta Valsesia Nature Park. The section of the park belonging to Fobello features beech trees, silver firs and spruces; dense rhododendron stands grow at higher elevations.

Museums, Traditional Dress and the Parish Church

Regional clothing is particularly vividly presented in the two museums. The Museo del Puncetto is housed in a historic building in the center of Fobello and displays lace, clothing and objects relating to the history of Fobello’s traditional dress. The Museo Tirozzo Carestia is located in a remarkable 16th-century building in the hamlet of Campelli. A room on the first floor displays three complete traditional costumes from Fobello, along with selected items of clothing and accessories.

The Museo Tirozzo Carestia also includes approximately 1,000 sheets dating from 1854 to the early years of the 20th century. Fobello’s traditional dress is worn at religious festivals and folkloric events. As part of Fobello’s baptismal tradition, a decorated wooden cradle is carried on the head of a girl in traditional dress to the portico of the parish church. The parish church of San Giacomo Maggiore was originally built around 1545 and, following repeated flood damage, was rebuilt in its present form in 1931.

There are also specific routes for planning your day. A path equipped for people with disabilities leads from the hamlet of Roj to the hamlet of Torno and then continues in the direction of Cervatto. A Mule Track to Alpe Cardone

A well-preserved mule track leads from the hamlet of the same name to Alpe Cardone at an elevation of 1,907 meters. The walk takes approximately two and a half hours. This approximate time estimate provides you with a helpful guide when incorporating the route into a day plan.

Regional Cuisine and Local Specialties

Regional cuisine includes Paniccia: On the last Sunday of the carnival season, it is prepared in Fobello’s village square as a vegetable soup with tripe and salami. In addition, the La Giuncà dairy produces cheese in the Alta Valsesia Nature Park at an elevation of 1,100 meters.
