Rena Majore: Sandy Beach, Coastal Path and Monti Russu

Those who choose Rena Majore for an individual trip will encounter not just one beach, but several clearly distinct themes: water sports, independent walks along the coastal path, nature observation, and historical remains at Monti Russu. Beach and Water Activities

At Rena Majore Beach, the mouths of the Rio Cantaru and the RiuoCiuchesa divide the sandy beach into three sections. Behind the beach are a pine forest and dense juniper scrub; dark rocks and light granite line the shore. This gives the coastal section a varied landscape in which sand, vegetation and rock meet directly.

The seabed at the beach slopes gently, making it suitable for less experienced swimmers. At the same time, the fish-rich seabed is popular with divers and snorkellers. Rena Majore is also a surfing beach, with left- and right-hand breaks over an irregular reef and sandy seabed. Depending on your personal interests, you can therefore experience the beach from different perspectives: for swimming, underwater observation or surfing.

Paths Between the Coast and the Headland

If you would like to explore Rena Majore on foot, the “Green Way” coastal path reaches Rena Majore Beach and can be walked independently. Several paths lead to the upper part of the Monti Russu headland.

Monti Russu: Granite, Wildlife and Birdwatching

The Monti Russu SIC stretches along the coast between Vignola and Rena Majore. Monti Russu is a headland of reddish granite that rises approximately 90 metres above sea level. Wetlands and rocky cliffs in the Monti Russu SIC serve as natural observation areas for birdwatching.

The Monti Russu SIC is home to 24 animal species listed in the annexes to the EU Habitats and Birds Directives, including four priority species.

Historical Traces on the Headland

The upper part of the Monti Russu headland contains numerous remains of military installations from the Second World War, which can be visited. Alongside the beach, paths and nature observation, your exploration can therefore also focus on a specific historical connection.
