Archi di Pasqua and Churches

San Biagio Platani has a tradition closely linked to two churches: the Archi di Pasqua. It began in the second half of the 17th century and is associated with the Madunnara and Signurara confraternities. The Madunnara is based in the Chiesa Madre, while the Signurara is based in the Chiesa del Carmine. Plant-based materials and fruit are combined in the central Archi di Pasqua structures; bread is the essential decorative element.

Art and Architecture in the Town

The Chiesa Madre dates back to the founding of the San Biagio Platani settlement in 1635. It houses numerous works by the 18th-century painter and writer Padre Fedele da S. Biagio. The Chiesa del Carmine is an example of 18th-century architecture in San Biagio Platani.

MUSARCH – Museo degli Archi di Pasqua is housed in a former, disused slaughterhouse. It was established by Pro Loco in 2009 and preserves the history of the Archi di Pasqua. Guided tours take visitors through the streets of the historic center, to the churches, the Archi di Pasqua and MUSARCH. Reservations are available for school groups and larger groups. This makes it possible to view the townscape, churches, decorated structures and their history as part of a shared cultural focus.
