Condrò between Church Art and Mountain Landscape

Condrò combines distinctive religious architecture with its location at the foot of Monte Cupola in the Peloritani Mountains. Renaissance and Frescoes in the Town Centre

The Chiesa S. Maria del Tindari stands out for its imposing Renaissance façade with its three tiers. Pilasters arranged one above the other, horizontal cornices and two lateral bell towers define its external appearance. The interior follows a Latin-cross floor plan and comprises three naves, a transept and a square apse flanked by chapels. Those who take a closer look at the architecture will find a clearly structured connection between the façade and the church interior here.

The Chiesa di Santa Caterina is located in the heart of Condrò’s town centre and is a recently restored 18th-century church. Its walls are decorated with frescoes by the Filocamo brothers from 1729, including a depiction of the martyrdom of Saint Catherine.

Monte Cupola and the Traces of the Monastery

Its location at the foot of Monte Cupola gives Condrò a distinctive landscape setting. In the upper part of the town are the ruins of an ancient 17th-century monastery, which visitors can admire. The monastery was abandoned because of its deterioration and was subsequently irreparably damaged by a fire. The ruins thus combine the mountain setting with a tangible historical trace of the town.
