Godrano combines religious art, places of remembrance and the landscape of the Bosco della Ficuzza. Church Art and Religious History

The Church of Maria Santissima Immacolata contains a large painting on the main altar and a wooden statue of the Immaculate Conception on the right side wall of the nave. In the last chapel on the left, there is also a statue of the Addolorata at the foot of the cross. The arrangement of the works also makes the church interior interesting for visitors who want to experience sacred art not only as individual objects, but also in their spatial context.

Godrano is also connected with a period in the life of Padre Pino Puglisi. From 1 October 1970 to 31 July 1978, he was parish priest of Godrano’s parish church, dedicated to the Immaculate Conception. The museum “sulle orme di Padre Pino Puglisi” houses accounts and artefacts from his life in Godrano. By contrast, the Museo demo etno-antropologico “Godranopoli” reconstructs typical lifeways of the agro-pastoral culture in the hinterland of Palermo, including traditional craft workshops.

Forest, Ponds and Rocca Busambra

Gorgo Tondo is one of the best-known natural or near-natural ponds in the Bosco della Ficuzza and is also known as Gorgo del Drago di Godrano. The Bosco della Ficuzza, Rocca Busambra, Gorgo del Drago and Bosco del Cappelliere Nature Reserve protects the landscape of Rocca Busambra, the forests, natural ponds and the animal populations found there. Hiking Trails with Different Levels of Difficulty

A forest road leads uphill from Godrano towards Gorgo del Drago. Those coming from Santa Barbara can continue on foot towards Ficuzza and reach the turn-off for the path to Pulpito del Re on the paved road between Bivio Lupo and Godrano.

Another hiking trail begins at the Giardino della Memoria in the municipality of Godrano. It passes through imposing cork oaks and downy oaks to a forest road leading to the plateau of Valle Agnese. The route is particularly appealing to visitors who, when hiking, want to take into account not only a destination but also the transition between forest, forest road and higher-lying landscapes.

The path to the summit of Rocca Busambra is considerably more demanding. Because of sparse markings, difficult trail conditions, the steep gradient and a trail that is difficult to identify, it is reserved for experienced hikers or people accompanied by specialised guides. If you include this route in your travel plans, your own experience with demanding mountain trails should be one of the most important decision-making criteria.

Tradition in the Townscape

During the “Matrimonio all’Antica” procession, men and women in historical clothing, together with riders and festively decorated Sicilian carts, make their way through the streets of Godrano. The tradition combines a procession with historical costumes, riders and traditionally designed carts, thereby complementing the town’s religious and museum themes.
