Partinico between Sacred Heritage, Agriculture and Lago Poma

Partinico becomes tangible above all through its churches, historic buildings, collections, agriculture and the Via Francigena Mazarense. In Partinico’s historic centre, at Piazza Duomo, stands the Chiesa Maria SS. Annunziata, also known as Chiesa Madre. The church houses the painting “L’Assunta” by Antonino Spatafora, nicknamed “Il Panormita”, dated 1579.

Sacred Art and Historic Buildings

The sacred architecture includes the Chiesa di San Leonardo. Its campanile has a pyramidal top and is decorated with 18th-century majolica tiles depicting saints. The Chiesa di San Leonardo was built in 1634 by the Compagnia del SS. Sacramento.

The present-day image of the Madonna del Ponte dates from 1819 and was created by Vincenzo Manno. During the 1774 renovation, the Santuario della Madonna del Ponte was extended to include three naves.

Another historic building is the Palazzo del Carmine, also known as the Palazzo dei Carmelitani. It is a former historic monastery and now houses the Biblioteca Comunale di Partinico.

Library, Antiquarium and Musical History

The Fondo Antico of the Biblioteca Comunale di Partinico contains around 1,800 books, including editions from the 16th and 17th centuries. The Antiquarium Partinico comprises an archaeological and an ethnographic section with tools from the local agropastoral tradition. The Antiquarium is temporarily closed for redevelopment.

The Palchetto Musicale follows the neoclassical tradition of the 19th century and served as a platform for the town’s musical band.

The Santuario della Madonna del Ponte is located on Provincial Road 63 in the Partinico area, a few kilometres from the Balestrate exit of the A29 motorway. The Via Francigena Mazarense reaches Partinico as the twelfth stage of a 322-kilometre route comprising 14 stages from Agrigento to Palermo.

OLIO GIALLOMBARDO is produced in the Contrada Costa di Bisaccia in Partinico; the area is particularly suitable for the Cerasuola olive variety. Palazzo Ram is considered the oldest surviving masseria in Partinico and was built towards the end of the 16th century.
