Buseto Palizzolo: Forest Landscape, Trekking and Rural History

Buseto Palizzolo lies between Erice and Segesta and combines a rural Sicilian landscape with regional traces of history. Historically, the town formed a natural route between the two ancient Elymian cities.

Bosco Scorace: Forest and Trails

Bosco Scorace covers 750 hectares and lies at an elevation between 400 and 642 metres above sea level. In addition to oaks, pine trees, cypresses and eucalyptus trees grow there; blackberry bushes and species-rich Mediterranean maquis are also present. Nature trails lead to a small lake below the summit and to a panoramic area. Trekking and nature observation here combine forest, trails, lake and panoramic views.

Bosco Scorace has car parks, equipped areas with benches and rustic tables, cooking facilities and play equipment for children. In addition, the forest has two equipped areas where picnics are possible. Villa Comunale in the Centre

In the centre of Buseto Palizzolo, the Villa Comunale is located directly beside the town hall. It is the town’s public garden and contains works and sculptures integrated into the surrounding nature.

Baglio Murfi: Farmstead and Wide Views

Baglio Murfi is an old fortified farmstead. Some of its buildings are constructed from dry stone masonry, with the rooms arranged around a large courtyard. To this day, the baglio preserves a small rural chapel and a characteristic livestock watering trough. From Baglio Murfi, views extend as far as Trapani and the Egadi Islands. Rural architecture and wide vistas come together here. Alongside the forest and fields, Baglio Murfi also reveals the human-shaped side of the landscape.

Chiesa Madonna Del Carmelo

Another historical highlight is the Chiesa Madonna Del Carmelo. Nicolò Gervasi built it in 1695 as a rural chapel. In the mid-19th century, it was rebuilt at the initiative of the chaplain Don Giuseppe Poma with the support of the local population. The church contains family tombs belonging to the Fontana family. Its architectural history combines religious architecture with local family history.

The rural landscape around Buseto Palizzolo is characterised by olive groves, vineyards and orchards. Trails lead from the valley into wooded and hilly areas; Buseto Palizzolo is also suitable for trekking.
