Goldrain combines castle history, church art, trails and regional products. The Latschanderwaal, the Sonnenberg, the Goldrain bakery and the Kräuterschlössl lead to further specific topics in Goldrain and the Vinschgau Valley.

Goldrain Castle and the Tuesday appointment with a one-hour guided tour

Goldrain Castle is now a modern education and conference centre and was once the ancestral seat of the Counts of Hendl. Every Tuesday, Goldrain Castle offers a one-hour guided tour. Registration must be completed by 12:00 noon on the day of the event. The tour is therefore part of the building’s current use; the former ancestral seat of the Counts of Hendl provides the castle’s historical context. The fixed duration gives the Tuesday appointment a clearly defined time frame. Anyone visiting Goldrain Castle on a Tuesday should allow one hour for the tour and complete registration by 12:00 noon on the day of the event.

Church art in Tiss and Schanzen: Gothic architectural style, murals and winged altarpiece

In Tiss in Goldrain, the parish church of St. Luzius acquired its uniform Gothic architectural style in 1491. The Gothic architectural style of 1491 characterises the parish church; Gothic murals are located on its southern side, and the church contains a marble tombstone of Governor Franz Hendl. In Schanzen, the Chapel of St. Anne was built in the first half of the 15th century and contains a Late Gothic winged altarpiece.

Exterior view of St. Anne’s

The Chapel of St. Anne in Schanzen can only be viewed from the outside. For St. Anne’s, the exterior view is therefore the prescribed scope of the visit.

To the Latschanderwaal

Access to the Latschanderwaal leads from Latsch first along the road towards Goldrain. It then continues via the Roman-Köhle-Weg and the Tisserweg, through an underpass and onto Waalweg No. 3. The Latschanderwaal runs along Trail No. 3 from Latsch to Kastelbell. The sequence of the approach is relevant for orientation because access initially leads via the road, Roman-Köhle-Weg, Tisserweg and the underpass. Only then is Waalweg No. 3 reached. The underpass is therefore part of the approach and comes before the actual Waalweg.

Market on 17 March, bread and Kräuterschlössl

The traditional Landsprach market takes place in Goldrain every year on 17 March. The Goldrain bakery produces traditional South Tyrolean bread, including typical Paarl bread, as well as sweet dishes. The Kräuterschlössl in Goldrain includes a farm shop, herb fields and show gardens. Paarl bread and sweet dishes broaden the perspective on the regional food culture, while the farm shop, herb fields and show gardens define the Kräuterschlössl as a separate focal point in Goldrain. 17 March is a fixed reference point for planning the timing of a visit to Goldrain.
