Ceniga between Ponte Romano, vineyards and hiking trails
Accommodation in Ceniga
Ceniga brings outdoor activity, landscape and history together within a compact area of interest. The Sentiero Campagnola connects the ancient Ponte Romano di Ceniga with the bridge in the nearby village of Dro. The route can be walked or cycled and leads through a landscape of dry-stone walls, unpaved paths, olive groves and vineyards. This makes it possible to explore the route actively while also enjoying views of the rural surroundings.
A small beach lies beneath the Ponte Romano di Ceniga and is suitable for cooling off after a cycling tour.
Hiking trails with distinctive local references
The “Scaloni–Cavre–Anglone” trail begins at the Ponte Romano di Ceniga, follows the road towards Maso Lizzone and joins the SAT428 trail. The names “Cavre” and “Scaloni” refer respectively to the support portals of cableways and to stairways that make the ascent easier on difficult sections.
Ponte Romano and traces of history
The origin of the Ponte Romano di Ceniga is uncertain. It presumably served in ancient times as a crossing over the Sarca, at the point where the old paths from Arco and Laghel reached the Ceniga district. For visitors interested in culture, the appeal lies in this combination of structure, river crossing and ancient paths.
At the Rievocazione Storica Dro, around 200 people take part in the Corteo Storico wearing 17th-century clothing; they represent all social classes. The “Tesori di Arte Sacra ad Arco” circular route passes through the Ceniga district. Both connections add different cultural perspectives to a stay: a historical event and a route featuring sacred art.
Cycling through the landscape
A different perspective is offered by the easy cycling tour from Arco to Fies. It follows the Sarca River northwards along a cycle path and minor roads, passes through orchards, vineyards and small settlements, and ends in the protected area of the Marocche. This area has been included in the European Natura 2000 network of protected areas as a Site of Community Importance.
