Faedo Among Forests, Ridges and Vineyards

Faedo lies on the left-hand slope of the Adige Valley. There, clearings alternate with pine, fir, larch and beech forests. The landscape combines open areas with densely forested slopes. Open clearings and the various forest types alternate directly with one another along the slope above Faedo.

Hiking Trails with Traces of Mining

After the Passo della Croccola, the Faedo–Zise–Roccolo del Sauch hiking trail reaches the village of Zise along the western slope of Monte Pincaldo. The trail also recommends a short detour to the Roccolo del Sauch Ornithological Observatory. This short detour to the observatory can be planned separately from the destination of Zise as an independent waypoint for the day's itinerary.

The history of mining is also present on the Sentiero Minerario Masen-Faedo. The former mining area is the place where silver was once extracted; today, it is covered by dense forest. The trail passes several ancient, horizontally extending mine tunnels known as the “Canope”. The former extraction of silver and the area's present-day forest cover give this hiking trail both a historical and a landscape focus. In this way, the Sentiero Minerario Masen-Faedo combines a forest landscape with traces of former silver mining.

For an alternative route, the access trail to the Ferrata di Cadino begins in Cadino, behind the small chapel near Garnì La Ferrata. Cadino remains the starting point for the approach; the small chapel is located near Garnì La Ferrata.

Ridges and Historic Places

Castello di Monreale is located on a panoramic ridge a little north of Faedo. Its elevated position adds a distinctive architectural landmark to the wooded slopes and trails.

Castel Monreale, also known as Konigsberg, was rebuilt in 1243 on the ridge between Faedo and San Michele all'Adige.

In the village, the Gothic-Romanesque Chiesetta di Sant’Agata marks the entrance to Faedo's historic center. Faedo is also home to the largest nativity scene in Trentino, which is part of the Christmas tradition. The cultural spectrum thus extends from a specific building at the entrance to the village center to an explicitly Christmas-related tradition.

Wine in the Village and at the Winery

The vineyards on the slopes of Faedo are also part of the area's local character. You can taste and buy their wines in the village. Alongside hiking trails, forests and historic buildings, Faedo therefore offers a clear connection to regional wine production.

The CANTINA EXPERIENCE at Azienda Agricola Fontana Graziano & C. S.S. includes a visit to the winery and barrel cellar, explanations of winemaking and the Metodo classico, as well as a tasting of Trento DOC Riserva, Chardonnay, Sauvignon and Pinot Nero. For wine enthusiasts, both the production process and the various wines being tasted are therefore central. The wines tasted complement the explanations of the production process.
