Gereut: Mocheno Language, Churches and Trails
Accommodation in Gereut
In Frassilongo, the Mocheno language is spoken by some families; at the same time, the names of inhabited places, summer pastures, forests and mountain areas there are predominantly Mocheno. In Frassilongo/Garait, the names therefore range from settlement areas to summer pastures, forests and mountain areas. Alongside the spoken language, place and landscape names also shape the local linguistic area. For those interested in culture, the linguistic trail thus leads from family usage into the landscape areas of Frassilongo/Garait.
Churches and sacred art
The old church of Frassilongo bears a fresco of Saint Christopher on its façade, dating from 1521 and attributed to Nicolò Paracchia. In Roveda, the Church of San Romedio is dedicated to Saint Romedius; it was built around 1797. A Mocheno inscription on the portal of this church commemorates the itinerant merchants of Roveda. In Kamaovrunt, the Madonna della Pace chapel was blessed on 15 July 1984; it was designed by Don Guido Avi. The different construction and origin dates give the churches and chapels their own respective historical context. The chronological sequence extends from the early 16th to the late 20th century and establishes different historical reference points.
Trails, mill and village character
The trails and rural village character also create different points of emphasis. The Bernstol Trail runs partly through Frassilongo and partly through the neighboring municipality of Fierozzo. In the cadastral area of Frassilongo, it is a trail for hiking on foot and with snowshoes. In Roveda/Oachlait, a hamlet of Frassilongo, the old De Mil mill is powered by the waters of the Rio Rigolor. The higher hamlet of Kamaovrunt is picturesque because of its architecture and location. For individual tour planning, the Bernstol Trail offers a choice between a hike on foot and a snowshoe tour. Roveda/Oachlait and Kamaovrunt create different local focal points: here, the old mill powered by the Rio Rigolor; there, a higher hamlet with picturesque architecture and location. The spatial extent of the Bernstol Trail and the fixed location of the mill are two different planning aspects.
The Bersntol Ring and regional cuisine
For the 2025 edition of the Bersntol Ring, the start and finish are located beside the chapel in Kamaovrunt (Kamauz). For the same edition, eight food stations serving traditional Mocheno and Trentino dishes were planned along the route. The event therefore combines a section of trail with regional culinary experiences, without this implying a general statement about other dates. The start and finish beside the chapel and the food stations along the route represent two different locations within the same event in 2025.
