Lagolo at the Alpine karst lake

Lagolo is closely connected with Lago di Lagolo, an Alpine karst lake. The lake lies at an altitude of about 950 m. Its elliptical basin measures approximately 250 × 140 m and reaches a maximum depth of 7 m. These clear geographical details give the place a distinctive landscape profile between the lake and the mountains.

A reed wetland is located along the shores of Lago di Lagolo. It contributes to water purification and retains sediments. At the same time, the reed area provides habitats for waterfowl breeding. The lake is therefore not only a destination for activities on the water, but also a place where natural processes and wildlife can be experienced directly within a specific landscape.

Water, beach and trails

Spiaggia di Lagolo is a freely accessible, unequipped beach. A lifeguard service is scheduled for this beach from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Those planning to include the lake in their stay will find different conditions here than at an equipped bathing lake: the nature of the beach is part of the practical orientation on site.

Fishing with a license is permitted at Lago di Lagolo every day from May to October except Thursdays. Bar Bufo at Lago di Lagolo also offers stand-up paddleboard, or SUP, rental.

For an easier walk, the 1.5 km-long, flat and easy circular trail around Lago di Lagolo is suitable. It is suitable for families with children and strollers. A more demanding option is the “Senter de le Mule” hiking trail, with an elevation gain of 183 m and a duration of approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes. This trail is not suitable for strollers.

Other routes lead through the area around Lagolo: Sentiero 618 runs from Piana delle Viote to Lago di Lagolo. The VIOTE–LAGOLO route passes by the Caverna and the Sorgente Stengiador. Please note that Variante 1 – Bivio Viote – Strada per Malga Brigolina is not signposted.

Church and Malga di Lagolo

The history of the place’s buildings can also be seen in specific details. The church of Lagolo was converted from the stable of an abandoned malga and dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta. It was blessed in 1970. Inside, a distinctive visible wooden roof structure defines the space.

The casara of Malga di Lagolo is also known as Ex Malga Lagolo and was built in 1905. Seasonal transhumance of livestock took place at Malga di Lagolo from the beginning of June to the end of September.

Lagolo for planning your trip

When choosing a hotel in Lagolo, you can therefore weigh up different interests: the flat circular trail appeals to families with strollers, while the “Senter de le Mule” is a route with a significant elevation gain. Lago di Lagolo combines nature observation, beach activities, fishing and SUP, while the church and malga add a cultural and rural accent. The different trail lengths and levels of difficulty help you structure your stay to suit your own plans.

Other places for planning your trip include Ruffrè-Mendola, Selva Di Levico, Valle San Felice, Bocenago, Ronzone, Neustift, Alba and Pampeago.
