Lenzi - Stefani between Culture and Mining History

If you would like to get to know Lenzi - Stefani through its culture and mining history, several themes come together: the Mòchenish community, traditional crafts, museums and a circular trail through the Valle dei Mòcheni. At the Bersntoler Cultural Institute and the Mostra Klòffen, you can encounter the language, traditions and local history; the Anello dei Minatori leads to mines, farmsteads, archaeological sites and other traces in the Valle dei Mòcheni.

Mòchenish History and Language

The Bersntoler Cultural Institute has a permanent exhibition on the area and the Mòchenish community. It covers the first human traces, medieval colonisation, farmsteads and mining through to traditions and language. Multimedia stations allow you to explore audio accounts and documentaries.

The Mostra Klòffen exhibition presents the history and traditions of the Mòchenish population from colonisation to the present day using panels, objects and documents. It includes the Stela, an object that was used for a long time in Palù del Fersina.

Mining and Mills

The S’Pèrgmandlhaus Mineral Museum was designed as a link to the Erdemolo Mine (Gruab va Hardimbl). On two floors, it displays minerals and work equipment used by miners. A video room covers the history of Palù del Fersina and the coexistence of the valley’s inhabitants with mining.

The Mulino Lenzi is now part of the Ethnographic Museums of Trentino. During a visit, you can learn how the millstones work and about the individual steps involved in processing grain. Visitors can also observe the production of local flours there. At the Mulino Lenzi, the process described runs from grain to local flours.

The Anello dei Minatori

The Anello dei Minatori is a circular trail through the mining history of the Valle dei Mòcheni, with old mines, museums, farmsteads, archaeological sites and traces of local culture. Along a forest road, it runs along the left bank of the Fersina River, in orographic terms, to Maso Lenzi and the Erdemolo Mine. The return route runs via Fernù and Stelder, passes the Church of Santa Maria Maddalena and leads through the historic centre of Stefani-Steffener. The loop thus connects the mines with the Fersina River, the Church of Santa Maria Maddalena and the historic centre of Stefani-Steffener.

Starting Points for Orientation

From the car park in the village of Fròtten, you can reach the De Gruab va Hardimbl Mine on foot in the direction of Lago di Erdemolo in approximately 30 to 40 minutes. During an excursion to Lago di Erdemolo, the footpath began in the village of Lenzi in Palù del Fersina, at the town hall square, and led towards the village of Frotteni. The approximately 30- to 40-minute estimate applies to access from Fròtten; the town hall square in Lenzi, Palù del Fersina, is the starting point of the described excursion towards Frotteni.
