Art and Monastery History in Campo Lomaso

The Church of Santi Quirico e Giulitta houses the oil painting “Martirio dei Santi Quirico e Giulitta” on the high altar, dating from 1619–1620. The two side altars were consecrated in 1633 to Saint Francis of Assisi and to Saints Rocco and Sebastiano (Stenico).

The Franciscan monastery of Campo Lomaso has a remarkable covered cloister, a central fountain and an enclosing wall with the typical Stations of the Cross shrines. In 1664, the Franciscans settled in the Lomaso area in the newly built monastery next to the old Church of Santi Quirico e Giulitta. The poet Giovanni Prati was born in the Franciscan monastery in 1814.

Villa de Lutti in Campo Lomaso also has a literary salon that ushered in Romantic tourism. The Parco del Poeta extends across the entire Lomaso area, which inspired Giovanni Prati to create some of his works. In the Parco del Poeta, the Franciscan monastery of Campo Lomaso is one of the places associated with Giovanni Prati.

Storytelling Trails and Practical Information

In the Parco del Poeta, trails accompanied by a storyteller are offered under the name “I Viaggi dell’Emozione”. They combine stories, theatrical performances, poems, melodies and flavors from bygone eras. The Parco del Poeta calendar includes regular events, especially in summer. Groups can visit the chosen circular route by reservation at any time of year.

Along the walking route, you can see the ruins of the Molino dei Zeni beside the Torrente Dal. The route passes an old bridge that probably dates back to Roman times and is known as the Ponte Romano. Free parking for the walking route is available in Campo Lomaso near the church. Campo Lomaso is also connected to other places in Garda Trentino by intercity bus routes 211 and 201.

The Sentiero della Patata is an easy, scenic walking route marked with Corten steel signposts. The path crosses the Piana del Lomaso between castles, churches, and potato and grain fields. The Sentiero della Patata also passes through the cultivation areas of the Montagnina potato, a typical product of the valley.

Potato Culture and Travel Planning

The Festa della Patata takes place in Campo Lomaso and Dasindo on the last weekend of October. It combines a gala dinner, a culinary route with several stops, show cooking, activities and opportunities to meet local producers.

When choosing your accommodation in Lomaso, you can decide whether to focus on church art and monastery history, literary connections, storytelling trails, a marked walking route or regional cuisine. These different focuses help you plan the desired location and daily itinerary of your trip accordingly.
