Lona-Lases combines Lago di Lases with a diverse natural area in the Valle di Cembra. The lake is an Alpine lake of glacial moraine origin. Its shores are home to wetlands with dense reed beds that provide a habitat for waterfowl, amphibians and fish. This makes the landscape particularly appealing if, during your trip to Italy, you would like to combine lakes, tranquil natural areas and geological features.

Wetland and lakeside circular trail

The Lona-Lases protected area comprises three separate sections in the Valle di Cembra. These include a valley consisting largely of porphyry rubble with ice-filled depressions in the ground, a basin also formed in porphyry rock with a transitional bog, and the eastern arm of Lago di Lases with extensive stands of large sedges and reeds. A visitor trail around Lago di Lases leads through the Lases wetland and turns these different landscape forms into one continuous nature experience.

The visitor trail through the Lona Lases wetland begins just outside the historic centre of Lases, behind the church, and follows a circular route. Some sections are flat along the water, while others are steeper through the forest. The trail is not suitable for pushchairs. If you like to combine your days with a manageable yet varied exploration, you should take these different trail conditions into account when planning your visit.

Orientation between the lake, village and road

Lago di Lases is located in the Val di Cembra on Provincial Road 71. Just before the village of Lases, there are paid car parks serving the bathing beaches at Lago di Lases. When choosing a hotel in Lona- Lases, it may therefore be useful to consider the focus you want for your stay: the circular trail begins behind the church, while the lake is located on Provincial Road 71.

Historical traces and museums

Sottolona, a small hamlet of Lona-Lases, has been documented since 1429 as a farm with a wine press, vineyards with “grezivi” and forests. The surrounding area of Lona-Lases is also home to the Museo Storico in Trento - Castello del Buonconsiglio, a museum, Monte Palace, a palace, the Provincial Museum of Art, a museum, and the Museo della Società Alpinisti Trentini, a museum. These places complement a stay by the lake with historical and cultural points of reference, without requiring nature and local history to be considered separately.

Mountains in the surrounding area

The mountain landscape is also part of the surroundings of Lona-Lases. La Gorsa, a mountain, is located nearby. Monte Speggia, a peak, is also in the immediate vicinity. The surrounding area of Lona-Lases also includes Dosso di Costalta, a mountain, and Dosso di Segonzano, a mountain. Anyone wishing to alternate between lakeshore, forest, wetlands, mountains and museums when planning their trip will find a variety of natural and cultural themes within a regional context here.
