Revò between Santa Giustina and the gorges

Revò lies on a large promontory extending into the artificial Santa Giustina Lake. The village stretches between the ravines carved by the Novella and Pescara streams; the basin was created between 1950 and 1955. This combination of lake, promontory, and gorges gives Revò a distinctive landscape character. If you would like to combine nature and local history on a trip to Italy, the village offers several ways to do so.

Churches and houses with a long architectural history

The Church of Santo Stefano contains a monumental high altar created by the sculptor Giovanni Merlo in 1687. The Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel is a building dating from 1309. It was rebuilt in the 17th century and again after the fire of 1889. Both churches reflect different phases of the area’s architectural and local history.

The historic houses also have their own distinctive features. Casa Campia was built by the de Maffei family in the last quarter of the 17th century. The date 1669 on the entrance portal appears to refer to the completion of the building work. Casa Thun is a palace built in the 16th century, distinguished by its Renaissance architecture.

Archaeology, wine, and local tradition

Revò’s origins date back to Roman times, as evidenced by inscriptions and other archaeological objects discovered there. In the historic center, the Distilleria Rossi d'Anaunia occupies an old house dating from 1886. Cantina El Zeremia was the first historic winery to rediscover and promote the local Groppello di Revò grape variety in Val di Non. Alongside its buildings, archaeological traces and wine are therefore among the themes that characterize the village.

Revò’s religious tradition includes the Festa del Carmen, celebrated every year in honor of the Madonna del Carmine. For your travel planning, this festival offers another perspective on the village, without requiring you to view its history solely through its buildings.

Trails through gorges and wooded slopes

The Snazi-Mont nature trail between Cagnò and Revò can be explored without a guided tour and consists of three circular routes of different lengths. These three options can be easily compared when planning your itinerary. The RankiPino section from Cloz to the hamlet of Frari, located between Revò and Rumo, follows an old irrigation canal. It is completely flat and can easily be walked in either direction by everyone.

The RankiPino footpath connects Passo delle Palade with the hamlet of Mostizzolo, where the Val di Sole cycle route begins. From Revò, a three-hour ascent also leads along a comfortable mule track up the wooded slopes of Monte Ozol. The routes described therefore range from a flat section along the old irrigation canal to a longer ascent through the forest.

Other notable destinations in the surrounding area

Another noteworthy landscape feature is the Chiesetta di San Biagio. It stands at the tip of a striking rocky outcrop beyond the gorge of the Novella stream. In the Pòrtol area near Tregiovo, at an altitude of 1,300 meters above sea level, are the remains of abandoned galena mines. If you choose Revò as a base for your trip to Italy, you can combine local history, sacred architecture, wine traditions, and trails of varying difficulty according to your interests.
