Discover Vattaro: Pear Culture, Nature and the Vigolana Trails
Accommodation in Vattaro
Vattaro has a long history of farming traditions and is surrounded by meadows, forests and old orchards. The village lies at the foot of Doss del Bue on a moraine terrace approximately 700 metres above sea level. The green, fragrant surroundings offer relaxation in close contact with nature. The landscape is also part of the village’s agricultural character.

Pear Culture Between Fields and Festival Traditions
The Parco delle Pere was established in 2012 as a small field where varieties of fruit that had been widespread in the area many years earlier were planted. One of the programmes of the Festa della Pera included a walk from Vattaro’s town centre to the Parco delle Pere to learn more about pears. The walk leads from the town centre to this small field, linking the festival event with the history of fruit varieties that were once widespread in the area.
The Festa della Pera is one of Vattaro’s most representative events. It is dedicated to pears as well as local flavours, traditions and knowledge, and includes tastings, markets, music and cultural contributions. The event in Vattaro’s historic centre also featured a market of producers and hobby sellers, as well as the sale of Torte de peri. One of the programmes of the Festa della Pera included a culinary workshop explaining, preparing and tasting pear-based dishes and desserts, including Torte de peri. Torte de peri therefore appears both at the market and in the culinary workshop.
Palazzo Bortolazzi and Farming History
Palazzo Bortolazzi is a historic palace in Vattaro dating from the late 17th century. The building includes a cylindrical turret and a series of loopholes below the top of the tower. The palace contains frescoes by Erasmo Antonio Obermuller depicting rural life.
The farming past also includes the caradori, hauliers who came from Vattaro, travelled between Trento and Feltre, and sold fruit and wood. This connects the village’s landscape with a specific history of agriculture, transport and regional trade.
Trails for Nature, Exercise and Discovery
A discovery route across the Altopiano della Vigolana begins in Vattaro at Villa Bortolazzi and the adjoining chapel dedicated to Saints Rocco and Sebastiano. In Vattaro, thematic trails can be explored on horseback or through Nordic walking; mountain bike routes are also available. The thematic trails focus on history, the senses, cuisine or exercise. From Vattaro, you can complete the 60 km della Vigolana route. This distance requires a longer time frame when planning the tour.
