Badia A Passignano: Monastery, Art and Chianti Landscape

The abbey church has a Latin cross floor plan and was almost completely rebuilt from the second half of the 16th century onward. Inside, it is decorated with frescoes by Il Passignano and Alessandro Allori. In addition, the monastic kitchen has remained almost unchanged since the 18th century. You can therefore view the architectural form, rebuilding, paintings and preserved monastic rooms as different historical layers.

The Badia a Passignano protected area was established by the municipality of Tavarnelle Val di Pesa in 2008 and covers 364 hectares. In the protected area, hills typical of the Chianti landscape alternate with hills covered by vineyards or cultivated fields, as well as hills covered by olive groves or forests. There are also 17 mammal species found there.
