Since antiquity, Borselli has been a pass on a road that led from Pelago via Ferrano and the Tòsina Valley to Castelnuovo and finally into Casentino. The route followed older Etruscan and Roman roads. In the Middle Ages, Borselli was the last inhabited outpost of some importance before the road continued to the ridge of Casentino. In 1329, Florence decided to build the fortified settlement “Terra Nuova” near Borselli.
