Discover Caselle: Pieve, Trails and Regional Culture

Pieve and Remembrance

The Pieve di San Cassiano in Padule has very ancient origins dating back to the Lombard period in the 8th century AD. In Caselle, the Lapide Martiri di Campo di Marte commemorates sacrifice and struggle. The Pieve is located in Padule, while the Lapide Martiri di Campo di Marte is in Caselle.

The CAI Route Towards Gattaia

A CAI route follows the visit to the Pieve. It runs along an approximately 8 km scenic unpaved road towards Gattaia. For personal day planning, the estimated distance should be considered together with the unpaved surface. The approximate length leaves some flexibility for a day section; the unpaved surface is part of personal preparation and may influence the choice of pace. The route to Gattaia and the circular trail therefore remain two separate distance specifications.

Il Mugello che non si arrende: two variants

The Il Mugello che non si arrende trail uses CAI trails 12, 11, 11B, 9, 9A and 56, as well as SOFT routes 5, 6 and 17. The route towards Gattaia follows the visit to the Pieve, while Il Mugello che non si arrende has its own sequence of CAI and SOFT numbers. For individual day planning, the visit to the Pieve should not automatically be equated with this circular trail: the route to Gattaia remains a separate section, while Il Mugello che non si arrende has its own variants.

Il Mugello che non si arrende is considered a double circular walking route; the mountain-bike variant uses only the southern loop in the opposite direction. The choice of mode of transport must therefore be made before selecting the route.

Rogations Along the Way

During the Rogations, prayers are recited along the way. Tabernacles and re-erected crosses are also blessed. These practices give the route a religious character.
