A prominent landmark of Spedaletto is Villa Poggio Torselli: A cypress avenue leads through the estate to an elegant 18th-century façade. The combination of villa architecture and landscaped outdoor spaces provides a clear cultural starting point for planning your trip. Poggio Torselli includes the Giardino all’Italiana. It is laid out on two levels and combines seasonally changing blossoms with aromatic and medicinal herbs. It also features a collection of 130 citrus trees in Impruneta terracotta pots.

The technical aspects of the garden have also been preserved: In the Giardino all’Italiana, a fully preserved irrigation system still exists, consisting of 18th-century channels made of pietra serena and basins carved from pietra forte. The slope allows all the flower beds to be irrigated by gravity. Historic garden art is therefore also evident here in its technical design.

Distinctive Viticulture

Viticulture is also part of the local character. The Montecapri vineyard at Poggio Torselli is entirely dedicated to growing Sangiovese. The Poggio Torselli winery has a fermentation room with stainless-steel tanks and a total capacity of more than 3,000 hectolitres. Alongside garden art, this creates a clearly defined focus on the grape variety and fermentation room.

Routes and Spatial Orientation

The municipal Itinerario 3 is 47 kilometres long, leads to Spedaletto, runs approximately 300 metres behind Villa Poggio Torselli and joins the SS2 Cassia near the historic centre of San Casciano. The CAI hiking trail Sentiero 452, Anello del Principe (Albergaccio di Machiavelli), follows a section with an unpaved surface, crosses the Borro Suganella and continues to Spedaletto. SPEDALETTO SAN CASCIANO is connected by bus route 368.

In Spedaletto, Villa Tosi and its outbuildings are protected under a preservation order dated 2 August 1974. Da Bobo All'acciaiolo is an ancient site in the vicinity of Spedaletto. Palazzo Pitti is a palace in this area; the Museo degli Argenti and Galleria D'Arte Moderna are museums there. In this way, protected architecture, ancient history, a palace and a museum come together as different cultural interests.
