Mercatale Industrial Area: Wine Landscape on the Valley Floor

Between the Valley Floor and the Vineyards

The Mercatale Industrial Area lies on the broad valley floor of the Torrente Streda, before it flows into the Arno River. The area also includes the final section of the Torrente Streda valley, approximately 2.7 km long, up to its confluence with the Arno River. The watercourse therefore forms a clear spatial reference point for the locality; the valley landscape shapes the scenery of Mercatale.

Road and Rural Character

The Mercatale Industrial Area extends along both sides of the main road connecting Vinci and Sovigliana. At the same time, the area lies in a comparatively secluded rural setting. Agricultural land is predominantly planted with vineyards; individual historic villas stand on the ridges bordering the valley. The landscape therefore brings together the main road, open valley floor, viticulture and historic buildings.

Wine on Via Provinciale di Mercatale

The connection with wine is evident at two specific addresses. Enoteca Dalle Vigne is a wine shop offering wine tastings at Via Provinciale di Mercatale 291. Cantine Leonardo da Vinci is located on the same street at Via Provinciale di Mercatale 287; the cooperative was founded in 1961. House numbers 287 and 291 identify two different wine addresses on Via Provinciale di Mercatale. Via Provinciale thus links a place for wine tastings with a cantina whose foundation dates back to the mid-20th century.

Getting Your Bearings on Arrival

The Mercatale production area lies on the SP 13 Montalbano, which is described as the only access road to Vinci. The area is also connected to the urban transport system. The area's geographical orientation is therefore defined by its location on the SP 13 Montalbano and its connection to the urban transport system.

Palaces, a Church and a Museum in the Surrounding Area

Cultural destinations also have different spatial relationships to the Mercatale Industrial Area. Palazzo Pretorio is a palace in the nearby surroundings. Santuario Madonna Del Pozzo, a church, is likewise located nearby. Villa Medicea la Magia is a palace in the wider regional area, while Galleria D'Arte Bentivegna is classified there as a museum. This gives you a broad range of architecture, religious heritage and art that can be combined with the wine landscape when planning your trip.

Hills and Peaks in the Surrounding Area

Several elevations are also part of the area's landscape. La Cupola is a peak in the surroundings of the Mercatale Industrial Area. I Fornelli, Sasso Regina and Poggio Papinta are each hills in the same area. These different landforms complement the picture of the valley landscape and vineyards with the ridges that accompany the area scenically.
