Vinci: Leonardo, Culture and the Strada Verde
Vinci offers several clearly distinct points of interest for planning your trip: the Strada Verde as a walking and cycling route, the Casa Natale di Leonardo, the Museo Leonardiano, as well as works and places connected with Leonardo.
Along the Strada Verde to Anchiano
Route no. 14, the Strada Verde, is a 1,800-metre-long walking and cycling route from the centre of Vinci to the Casa Natale di Leonardo and connects the centre with Anchiano. The route passes through vineyards and olive groves and offers views of Vinci and the surrounding area. The Casa Natale di Leonardo is located 3 km from the town centre in Anchiano, can be reached from Vinci by car or on foot via the Strada Verde, and houses a permanent educational exhibition. Its fixed length makes the route easy to plan as a separate section; the choice between walking and cycling concerns the same connection. The Casa Natale's distance of 3 km from the town centre marks a separate section of the visit to Anchiano. Travelling by car and on foot are two different ways of reaching the same destination.
Exhibitions and works by Leonardo
The Casa Natale di Leonardo presents the audiovisual 3D installation “Leonardo a Vinci: un genio si racconta”. The permanent educational exhibition and the audiovisual 3D installation therefore represent two different forms of interpretation at the same location.
“L'uomo di Vinci” is a work by Mario Ceroli made of shaped laminated wood, inspired by Leonardo's drawing of the Vitruvian Man. “Il cavallo di Leonardo” is an approximately 2.5-metre-high bronze sculpture depicting, on a smaller scale, the horse that Leonardo had designed for Francesco Sforza, the Duke of Milan. The two works therefore differ in material and scale.
“Il Battesimo di Leonardo” is located in the baptistery of the Chiesa di Santa Croce. The baptismal font in which Leonardo was presumably baptised is also preserved there. Admission to the Chiesa di Santa Croce is free. Free admission is a specific framework condition when planning this cultural attraction.
Guided formats and events
The guided tours “Alla scoperta del Genio” can combine the Museo Leonardiano, the historic centre of Vinci and the Casa Natale del Genio with expert guidance. The historic centre is a separate component of the format.
The “Una domenica con Leonardo” programme includes practical activities involving building, observing and inventing. These three fields of activity give the format a practical focus. The format therefore includes more than one individual activity. Some dates also include visits to specific museum areas or the Leonardo machines.
The Festa dell’Unicorno reached its 20th edition in 2026 and offered a programme featuring fantasy, science fiction, steampunk, horror and the Middle Ages.
