Alberese between the nature park and village center

Alberese lies at the heart of the Parco della Maremma. The modern settlement consists of a few houses between the 15th-century Villa Granducale and the Church of Santa Maria, built in 1956 in the Neo-Romanesque style. The village therefore combines a compact settlement structure with historical points of reference and an expansive landscape.

Maremma horses and cattle roam freely across the extensive meadows under the supervision of Butteri. Wildlife can also be observed on the calm waters toward the mouth of the Ombrone: there, you may spot herons, kingfishers and pond turtles.

Hiking trails with monastery ruins and coastal views

An admission ticket is required for the trails in the Parco della Maremma. You can purchase one at the Alberese visitor center or online. The short A1b San Rabano hike starts in Alberese and leads through a large olive grove to the ruins of the San Rabano monastery. The route also reaches two viewpoints facing north and south, offering views of the entire coastline in this part of Tuscany.

San Rabano was an 11th-century religious center. The complex was built by Benedictines of the Cassinian Order in the Lombard-Romanesque style. The trail therefore combines a nature experience with a historically significant destination, so you do not have to choose between separate interests.

Cycling, forests and observing the landscape

Route A7 follows the cycle path to Marina di Alberese and then continues to the mouth of the Ombrone River. The A11 Strada degli Ulivi cycling route is 13.1 kilometers long and has a low level of difficulty. It leads from Alberese to Collelungo Beach, running along a paved road closed to traffic and crossing the Uccellina area.

For more peaceful walks, the A5 Itinerario forestale is available as a short trail where you can experience the different forms of Mediterranean woodland. The route passes through an abandoned old olive grove where fallow deer can be spotted. The Boschetto del Lasco presents another type of landscape: this wooded pasture lies at the foot of the Uccellina Mountains; wildlife seeks shelter among large holm oaks, cork oaks and downy oaks.

Horse riding and carriage rides in the Parco della Maremma

The Boschetto del Lasco riding route crosses the flat pastures around Alberese to Boschetto del Lasco and is also suitable for inexperienced riders. In addition, horse-drawn carriage rides accompanied by a nature guide are offered in the Parco della Maremma. Both carriage rides start in Spergolaia, near Alberese.

A bus connects Alberese with Marina di Alberese Beach and stops at the visitor center of the Parco Regionale della Maremma. In Alberese, you can also enjoy numerous historical, cultural and nature-related activities throughout the year. In summer, entertainment events take place at the Granaio Lorenese.
