Lagoon and Birdlife
The Oasi Laguna di Orbetello lies within the Zona Speciale di Conservazione IT51A0026 in the municipality of Orbetello. It is also a Special Protection Area (ZPS IT51A0026) and a Ramsar site. Visitors can observe thousands of birds there, including ducks, herons, geese, cranes, flamingos, waders, birds of prey and songbirds.
River Mouth and Fortified History
The Forte delle Saline is a square fortification at the mouth of the Albegna River, incorporating a covered tower. The complex occupied a strategic position and controlled the nearby salt pans, the river port, traffic on the Via Aurelia and the crossings over the Tombolo di Giannella.
The tower complex now incorporated into the Forte di Torre Saline was commissioned in 1469 by the Republic of Siena from Giovanni Danesi da Como.
Paths and Beaches
The Cammino della Costa d’Argento includes a 17 km stage from Orbetello via the Laguna di Ponente and the Tombolo di Giannella to Albinia. The 17 km provides a tangible sense of scale for planning your own route. The route and the beaches appeal to different travel interests: a longer walking distance on the one hand, and individual coastal destinations on the other.
Tantulli Ulisse, Braccio and La capannuccia are beaches in the area around Albinia.
Culture in the Surrounding Area
The Museo della Fortezza spagnola is located in the area around Albinia, as is the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Cosa. Vulci is an ancient site in the surrounding area, while Tombolo in Mezzogiorno Di Feniglia is considered a historic site. The Acquario Mediterraneo dell’Argentario is a visitor attraction classified as a zoological garden. The cultural range therefore extends from museums and ancient sites to a zoologically classified facility.
Traces in Albinia
The Roman kilns of Albinia lie between the left bank of the Albegna River and the built-up area of Albinia. The Chiesa di Maria Santissima delle Grazie was completed in 1957 and officially consecrated in the same year. A statue of Santa Rita is kept in the church.
Local Cuisine
The Sagra della Spigola held in Albinia is a recurring local food festival. At its 25th edition, seafood dishes, including dishes made with sea bass, were served mainly between 21 and 27 August in the Giardini di via Aldi. Local cuisine is therefore another specific aspect you can take into account when planning your trip.
