Talamone: Sea, Hiking Trails and History

However, the bay at the end of the trail can only be reached as part of guided visits that require a reservation. Prior reservation and a guide service are likewise mandatory for the Traversata del Parco della Maremma.

The Traversata del Parco della Maremma runs from Talamone to Alberese. Alternatively, its southern section runs from Collecchio to Talamone. The route is approximately 20 kilometres long and includes continuous ascents and descents between 0 and 400 metres. The T1 Punta del Corvo hiking trail begins at the Cisterne Romane or the Acquario di Talamone. The Acquario e centro visite Talamone and the Cisterne Romane in Talamone are closed.

Water Sports in Talamone

For active days on the water, Talamone Sports HUB offers kitesurfing, windsurfing and SUP courses for beginners and advanced participants. Talamone Sports HUB also rents equipment for windsurfing, kitesurfing, SUP and wingfoiling. Kitesurfing and windsurfing are possible at Fertilia Beach, while the Sports HUB’s courses and equipment rental provide additional specific options for people with different levels of experience.

History Between Gates, Fortress and Churches

Porta Garibaldi dates back to the 13th century and was built by the Aldobrandeschi family. Today, it is the only surviving original entrance to the village. The Rocca Aldobrandesca is a medieval fortress from the 13th century with defensive and observation functions. It played an important role during Giuseppe Garibaldi’s Expedition of the Thousand.

The churches also tell the story of the town’s long development. Santa Maria Assunta was built in 1374 on an older structure and houses 15th-century frescoes depicting the Madonna and Child. The Church of Madonna delle Grazie was built in the 17th century outside Talamone. It served travellers as a place of refuge and prayer.

Other historic buildings include the 16th-century Torre di Capo d’Uomo and the Torre delle Cannelle, built by the Medici. The Acquario della Laguna di Orbetello in Talamone provides a focus on natural history by explaining the lagoon’s ecosystem.
