Trails, hills and wide-open views

Morrona is best experienced through the combination of trails, hilly landscapes and historic sites. The Morrona–Casanova route is an easy, 2 km-long trail that you can use on foot, by mountain bike or on horseback. Sentiero 451 leads from Badia di Morrona to the hamlet of Le Case through the hills north of the ancient monastery.

A different landscape is presented by Sentiero 461, which begins at Badia di Morrona. Its first section alternates between enclosed passages lined with cypress trees and views of vineyards, olive groves and the clay-rich landscapes of Chianni, Lajatico and Volterra. After about 1 km, the partly paved and partly unpaved trail reaches Via di Taneto near Morrona. Along the side roads of Sentiero 451 towards the valley of the Torrente Cascina and the hamlet of La Valle di Soiana are numerous small Etruscan rock necropolises, most of which date to the 3rd and 2nd centuries BC.

Churches and historic spaces

Badia di Morrona comprises a cloister, a monks' refectory, gardens and the Romanesque Church of Santa Maria a Morrona. Morrona is also home to the Church of San Bartolomeo. It was extensively remodelled in the 19th century; the renovation affected both the façade and the interior, with its irregular side aisles.

San Bartolomeo is home to the Martyrdom of Saint Bartholomew, a work of the Tuscan school from the 18th century. Together with Badia di Morrona, this creates a cultural theme linking architecture, sacred spaces and art.

Destinations in the wider area

Several independent destinations for excursions are also located outside Morrona. Parco Preistorico Peccioli is an archaeological site in the vicinity of Morrona. Also nearby are Castello dei Vicari, a castle, and Museo Piaggio, a museum. In the wider regional surroundings of Morrona are Bagno Aurora beach, Bagno Ausonia beach, Spiagge bianche beach and Cala del Leone beach.

The wider regional surroundings also include Ecomuseo dell'Alabastro, a museum.

Tuscan cuisine and announced festivals

The 29th Festa dell'Allegria, announced for May 30 to June 1, featured Tuscan cuisine and wines from the region. The restaurant opened every evening at 7:15 p.m. and on Sundays for lunch from 12:15 p.m. The 30th edition of Festa dell'Allegria was also announced for May 29, 30 and 31, 2026, in Morrona.
