Historic settlement on Monte Malbe

Chiugiana-La Commenda is a historic settlement on the slopes of Monte Malbe. Its pentagonal layout gives the village a clearly recognizable architectural form. The castle complex of Chiugiana was built in the first centuries of the Middle Ages; the tower located uphill is still visible and in good condition. Chiugiana is first mentioned in a document from 1257 as Villa di Chiugiana. San Pietro and its ecclesiastical history

The Church of San Pietro is also part of the area's historical context. It was first mentioned for the years 1332 to 1334 together with the hospital of the same name. San Pietro Apostolo in Chiugiana was one of the 50 “Leonine” churches built during the episcopate of Cardinal Giacchino Pecci in Perugia from 1846 to 1878. A nature trail leads from the Church of San Pietro across Monte Malbe.
