Panicarola is located in the flat part of the Castiglione del Lago area, near the shores of Lake Trasimeno. The area around Panicarola is fertile because of its proximity to Lake Trasimeno. A settlement with a long history

The historic settlement of Panicarola has been inhabited since the Iron Age. There was already a church in Panicarola in 1313. The present-day parish church may stand on the site of an ancient pagan sanctuary that was Christianized in the Middle Ages.

The festival of Madonna del Busso is a long-standing Panicarola tradition that brings together faith, socializing and the participation of the local community. The festival week includes cultural events as well as music, sports and entertainment. The festival week extends beyond the individual religious ceremonies.

The Santuario della Madonna della Carraia

The origins of the veneration of the Santuario della Madonna della Carraia are dated to a reported miracle around 1659. The sanctuary has a Greek-cross floor plan and is located on the road between Panicarola and Carraia. For visitors interested in culture, religious tradition and a clearly recognizable architectural feature come together here. Cycling around Lake Trasimeno

The cycling route around Lake Trasimeno forms a loop of approximately 60 kilometers. A large part of the circular cycling route runs along unpaved paths through the lakeside landscape. In the final section of the route around Lake Trasimeno, between Panicarola and Castiglione del Lago, the regular road is used.

For cyclists, the change between the lakeside landscape and the regular road is therefore a defining feature of the route. The differing surfaces of the sections are just as important for orientation as the approximate total length of the loop.
