Tavernelle: Water, Sanctuaries and Regional Insights
Tavernelle combines a diverse range of water activities with sites of sacred history and regional educational offerings. At the Parco acquatico di Tavernelle, you will find space for exercise, play and relaxation. In addition, there is the Santuario di Santa Maria Assunta in Mongiovino and the Santuario della Madonna delle Grondici in the surrounding area. The Biblioteca Intercomunale “Ulisse” also has its own focus, offering educational programs and regional literature.
Water and Family Experiences
The Parco acquatico di Tavernelle covers a green area of approximately 30,000 m². It includes lawns, a pine forest, picnic areas, shaded zones and a children’s play area. The green area also provides space for breaks, for example in the park’s picnic areas and shaded zones.
The Twister water slide provides a dynamic water experience. It consists of two intertwined enclosed tubes, is approximately 50 m long and overcomes a height difference of about 7 m. The swimming pool measures 25 m × 16.80 m and has a water depth of 1.30 to 1.65 m. It is used for courses, recreational swimming, as well as playful and relaxing activities.
Another area is the approximately 160 m² Spray Park for children and families. Colorful slides, water games, fountains and spray nozzles characterize this part of the Parco acquatico di Tavernelle. The water park is accessible to people with disabilities. If you take different needs into account when planning your trip, this information is therefore one of the specific points of orientation for your choice.
Sanctuaries and Local History
The Santuario di Santa Maria Assunta in Mongiovino is a diocesan sanctuary in Tavernelle, Panicale. The Santuario della Madonna delle Grondici is also located in the surrounding area of Tavernelle, at a particularly impressive viewpoint. The sanctuary was built in the 15th century to protect an image of the Virgin Mary painted on a wayside shrine. Both places provide access to religious history without requiring a purely urban cultural stay.
The Sagra della Pannocchia is also part of the local events calendar: it has reached its 30th edition.
Library with a Regional Focus
The Biblioteca Intercomunale “Ulisse” promotes educational programs for schools. These include practical workshops and reading sessions conducted by qualified staff and held with the involvement of authors and specialists.
The library has a local collection of books on history, literature, art and nature. These relate in particular to Panicale and Piegaro and, more generally, to the Umbria region. In total, the Biblioteca Intercomunale “Ulisse” has 6,800 catalogued and classified volumes. In this way, its regional focus extends from individual places to the wider cultural and natural area of Umbria.
