Discover Villastrada

Villastrada combines a closely defined local history with an archaeological trace, museums in the surrounding area and two stages of the Via del Trasimeno. History between Vaiano and Paciano

Until 1624, Villastrada was a small settlement closely connected historically with nearby Vaiano. In 1624, a parish was founded in Villastrada after territory was transferred from the parish of Paciano. Both dates mark important stages in the development of the town and make its connection to neighboring places visible, without reducing Villastrada to a single attraction.

The village of San Benedetto al Moiano was home to a Benedictine abbey. As early as 1146, the reform of the Benedictine Abbey of San Benedetto al Moiano was entrusted to the Camaldolese hermitage of San Benedetto del Vivo on the slopes of Monte Amiata. This historical connection leads beyond Villastrada into a landscape where different religious sites and developments are linked together.

An archaic chamber tomb was discovered by chance in Villastrada in 1977. It dates from around 580–570 BC.
