Santa Maria Assunta in the historic center

In the historic center of Allerona stands the parish church of Santa Maria Assunta. Its origins date back to the 12th century. The church houses a Renaissance panel by Nicolò Alunno depicting the Virgin Mary assumed into heaven.

Ancient and medieval evidence

The remains of the feudal castle of Lerona in Allerona, destroyed by Charles VIII in 1495, include the walls as well as the Porta del Sole and the Porta della Luna. Allerona also preserves traces of the ancient Via Cassia, also known as Via Traiana Nova, in the form of surviving sections of road paving and two milestones.

Villa Cahen and a later historical marker

Villa Cahen was built in the Allerona municipal area in 1880 by the Antwerp financier Edouard Cahen. The year and the name of the patron give the villa a precise historical context.

Digital themes and museum visit

The “Moby Dick” installation uses digital storytelling, tablets and augmented reality to bring prehistoric whales and their environment to life. The Museo dei Cicli Geologici welcomes visitors by prior arrangement.

Madonna dell’Acqua: church and feast day

The Church of Madonna dell’Acqua is an octagonal chapel built in the early 18th century. The Madonna dell’Acqua feast is still celebrated on the fourth Sunday in June and culminates in a distinctive night-time procession. Parco di Villalba

Parco di Villalba is a wooded area of more than 20 hectares at an elevation of 600 to 700 meters, developed as an equipped park.
