Rosaro between Via Ulpiana and the mountain landscape

Historical Routes and Buildings

The medieval Via Ulpiana ran through Rosaro. In the Middle Ages, it was also known as Via Strata, Via Pietrosa, and Via delle Sette Valli.

The Via Ulpiana led as far as San Gemini. There, it connected with the ancient route of the Via Flaminia, the road to Spoleto, and a road coming from Terni. The historical context therefore extends beyond Rosaro and connects the town with several traditional routes.

The parish church of San Lorenzo was built over the former castle walls. Its single-nave interior has three altars. The church’s brick bell tower was heightened in 1736 by the parish priest, Don Carlo de Silvis.

Traces of the medieval Castello di Rosaro have also survived: they can still be recognized in architectural details of several old doors. At the turnoff from Rosaro, you will also find the Church of Madonna del Soccorso, which was built in 1602.
